On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56 and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to starboard from 60½ station showing a double tier bunk unit on the left and kit lockers on the right. A blazer hanging up has an embroidered badge on the breast pocket which resembles the crest of the Royal Navy destroyer Chequers (1944). A mirror is against the ship's side. A vertical format negative.
