On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward from the middle of the starboard side at 62 station. Triple bunk units and kit lockers are on either side with more kit lockers against the forward bulkhead. To the right of the latter is a watertight hatch leading down to the starboard plummer block compartment. A vertical format negative.
