On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from just to starboard of the centreline at 58 station. Triple tier bunk units are on the right and against the starboard side of the ship. Kit lockers, an air conditioning unit and the watertight hatch leading down to the starboard plummer block compartment are on the left. A vertical format negative.
