On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward and to port from the centreline at 58 station. An electric fire is in the right foreground next to three pipes labelled avcat drain, air escape and avcat supply. A fire hose rack is next to these pipes. Another electric fire and a mirror and fitted to the end of a bunk unit on the extreme left. A vertical format negative.
