On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking aft and slightly to port from the centreline at 58 station. A bunk unit and kit lockers are on the left. Kit lockers, a fire extinguisher, an inspection handlamp stowage cabinet, a bunk unit and more kit lockers are on the right. An air conditioning unit, kit locker, cable stowage brackets and a fire extinguisher are against the aft bulkhead. A vertical format negative.
