On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward from the middle of the mess at 60 station. A triple tier bunk unit is on the right. A fire hose stowage and an electric fire are on either side of three pipes labelled avcat supply, air escape and avcat drain against the forward bulkhead. A vertical format negative.
