On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 23 and 27 stations on 3 deck looking to port from 26 station near the centreline on the port side showing a kit locker and a fire hose rack on the left, a suitcase rack on the right and a triple tier bunk unit. Pin-up photographs extracted from magazines are displayed above two of the bunks.
