On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the engineer's office and NBCD headquarters between 47 and 49 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to starboard showing a desk which has a manuals and logs rack and a radiation ratemeter and alarm unit on the end. Above it are a notice board, fire alarm bell and engine room intercom loudspeaker. On the aft bulkhead are a telephone control box, telephones, microphone, combination safe, intercom speakers and an inclinometer. A package on the right side of the desk is dated 16-5-70.
