On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the main passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 41 and 49 stations on 2 deck. He is looking aft from 47½ station showing the closed but unclipped watertight door in the bulkhead at 49 station. Cable stowage brackets and a fuse panel are against the boiler downtake on the left. The watertight hatch leading down to the boiler room is on the right. A vertical format negative.
