On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 30¾ and 41 stations on 2 deck looking to port from 38½ station showing the door to the combined radar office on the left, cable stowage brackets, a fire main, a starter panel, a supply panel and an emergency diesel generator which is enclosed in a wooden cabinet. In the left foreground is the open watertight hatch leading down to the officers' cabins on 3 deck.
