On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from 50 station showing an engine room ventilation trunk on the right. A fire extinguisher, fire hose and hose nozzle, emergency connection box, emergency change over switch and connection box, supply box and a group of pressure gauges are against the boiler downtake bulkhead.
