On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking to port and slightly aft showing the stairs up to 1 deck and the open watertight hatch down to the engine room. Electrical boxes, starter panels, an amplifier, cable stowage brackets and pipework and valves for the Seacat magazine sprinkler system are against the alcove bulkheads.
