On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 23 and 30¾ stations on 2 deck looking aft from 26 station showing the open watertight hatch leading down to the junior rates' mess on 3 deck with the door to the communications control transmitting room beyond it. On the left is the door to the stabiliser and plane converter compartment and an international compressed air breathing apparatus cabinet. The watertight door at 30¾ station is closed but not clipped. A vertical format negative.
