On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 41 and 49 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 47 station showing the open door to the engineer's workshop on the left with a boiler room vent in the left foreground. Cable stowage brackets, three starter panels, an emergency change over switch and connection box, a switch box and a supply panel are against the boiler downtake bulkhead and an oval access door is in the downtake trunk. Cable stowage brackets are on the extreme right.
