The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). On the port side of 01 deck at the rear of the signal deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on 01 deck looking forward and to port from the port side just aft of the signal deck showing the back of the signal flag locker on the right with a whip aerial and a lifebuoy frame fitted against the guardrails. The shield for the single 20 mm oerlikon gun is beyond the lifebuoy frame. A Portsmouth registered Ford Cortina estate motor car 910 CTP is alongside a Ford Cortina saloon car on the quayside. A toilet block is by the roadway.
