The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). On the port side of 01 deck looking to starboard from 37 station.

On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on 01 deck looking aft and to starboard from the port side at 37 station showing the gyro unit stowage locker with an empty cable reel on it. The 3 inch rocket magazine is on the right with the signal platform above it. On the left is the air treatment unit with the single 20 mm oerlikon gun beyond it. The ladder leads up to the MRS3 director platform. A Leander class frigate of the 4th frigate squadron is on the far side of the basin.
