On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on 01 deck looking aft and to starboard from the port side of the air lookout's position at 33¾ station showing the support tower structure and platform of the MRS3 director. On the right is the gyro unit stowage locker with an empty cable reel on top and the signal platform is abaft the director. A Leander class frigate of the 4th frigate squadron is on the far side of the basin with a Dog class harbour berthing tug alongside her.
