On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the port side of 01 deck at 36 station looking aft showing the empty signal flag locker. On the left is a pyrotechnics locker with a ventilation fan unit behind it. The exhaust vent of the fan unit is open. On the right is the base ring of the single 20mm oerlikon gun. Scaffolding is around the base of the funnel and the seacat GWS launcher can be seen.
