On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is standing on the forecastle (1 deck) by the jackstaff looking aft showing the twin headed capstan, chain pipes and hawse with the gun turret. enclosed bridge, MRS3 director and foremast beyond. Awning stanchions have been erected. Berthed on the eastern side of the basin is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962), pendant A404, with stores lighter PAS 1002 alongside her.
