On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from 57½ station showing the open hatch leading down to the junior rates' mess on 3 deck. The sliding door to the junior rates' dining hall is on the left. A fire main has an hose stowage rack below it and various fuse and distribution boxes are either side of the fire main.
