On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 56 station showing the open hatch leading down to the junior rates mess on 3 deck. An empty stowage rack and the compressor for the sick bay air conditioning unit are next to it. An hose nozzle, cable stowage brackets, starter panels and an automatic emergency lantern are on the bulkhead. The door to the sick bay is on the right.
