On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking to port and slightly forward from 57½ station showing the alcove between the junior rates' bathroom on the left and the regulating office on the right. Damage control cupboards, an hose nozzle, starter panels, fuse and distribution boxes, a transformer and an emergency change over and switch connection box are against the bulkheads. An air hose is on the deck. The chain in the foreground is protecting the open hatch leading down to the junior rates' mess on 3 deck.
