The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). in the passageway between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 58 station showing, on the left, the open hatch leading down to the junior rates' mess on 3 deck with an automatic emergency lantern above it. Two telephones, an empty fire hose rack, distribution panels andfuse boxes are against the bulkhead of the sickbay. A fire extinguisher is by the archway at 61½ station and aft of the arch is the door to No. 2 senior rates' mess. The watertight doors at 63 and 66 stations are open.
