On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking forward, to starboard and down from the air lookout position at 02 level into the starboard bridge wing at 01 deck level. A microphone, a signalman's reading lamp box, two tannoys and a10 inch signalling projector and mounted on the bridge wing screen. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay.
