On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the torpedo stowage compartment between 51½ and 54 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking forward and to starboard from near the doorway showing stowage for six helicopter launched torpedoes against the starboard side. Against the forward bulkhead are stowages for two holding down saddles for 600 lb bombs, various portable rails, depth charge connecting band securing rods, a portable tie bar and adaptors for No. 2 trolley.
