On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the torpedo stowage compartment between 51½ and 54 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft and to port from 52 station showing stowage for six helicopter launched torpedoes with stretcher space above them against the port side. Against the aft bulkhead are a hoist and chain and lockers for the stowage of Type A and Type B fuzes for torpedo pistols.
