On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking to port into the pyrotechnic locker between 46¾ and 47¾ stations on the starboard side of 1 deck showing the empty shelves labelled for 'fuse no. 848', 'capsules delay', 'cartridges signal brown smoke puff', 'cartridges illuminating 1½ inch', 'cartridges single 1½ inch yellow', 'catridges signal red 1½ inch' and 'flare tracer A.S.12'.
