On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck looking forward and to port from 54 station in the centre of the space showing some of the flight deck safety netting stowed against the port side. An air conditioning unit is against the port bulkhead at 51 station. A stretcher is stored against the forward bulkhead and the water main for the sprinkler system is next to it.
