On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck looking forward from 53 station on the starboard side of the space showing the work bench equipped with a vice in the maintenance area. A stretcher is stored against the forward bulklhead and the water main for the overhead sprinkler system is next to it. A fire extinguisher, an hose storage rack, an automatic emergency lantern and an air conditioning unit are in the forward alcove. The stairs leading up to the air electrical maintenance room are on the right. A pile of hammocks are in the right foreground. A vertical format negative.
