On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck looking forward and to starboard from 53 station showing the work bench equipped with a vice in the maintenance area which has a ventilation unit under the stairs. The stairs lead up to the air electrical maintenance room whose door is on the right with an automatic emergency lantern next to it. A pile of hammocks are on the deck and an aluminium step ladder is stored against the starboard bulkhead. A number of packing cases are on an high level shelf on the starboard side. A vertical format negative.
