On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck looking to starboard from 55 station showing a pile of hoses, wire ropes and other gear on the deck. a locker for inflight refuelling equipment, H.P. air supply fittings, stowage brackets for an air hose, a large fuel hose reel, a telephone and two fire extinguishers are against the starboard bulkhead. A number of packing cases are on an high level shelf on the starboard side and a ladder is suspended under this shelf. A vertical format negative.
