The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). In the senior rates' mess between 16 and 21½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 16 and 21½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port from the starboard side of the mess at 19½ station showing the bar and drinks area against the aft bulkhead. A teapot, cups and beer mugs are on top of a steel cupboard unit alongside which is a beer keg and cooling unit. A double doored wooden cupboard and a clock reading 09.44 are on the bulkhead. Beer kegs are stored in a greatcoat locker and an electric hot water urn is by the side of the door to the mess.
