On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the 1st lieutenant's cabin between 27½ and 30 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft and to starboard showing his working desk in the corner with bookshelves above it on the right, cupboards above it against the aft bulkhead and full height wardrobes to the left of it. The desktop is cluttered with papers, stationery requisites and the ship's crest. Suitcases and an holdall are on the floor. Ties and shoe cleaning gear are on a cupboard on the left.
