On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the 1st lieutenant's cabin between 27½ and 30 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking forward and to port showing a settee berth and the door to the W.C. against the port side. A speaking tube is above the berth in the corner. A drop-leaf table is in the centre of the cabin with a copy of the Telegraph magazine and some ship plans on it. Volume IV of the Admiralty Manual of Seamanship and other publications are on a chair.
