On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' dining hall between 49 and 52 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to starboard from the servery showing two tables and tubular chairs positioned athwartships and one small table and four tubular chairs placed fore and aft. A settee bench is against the ship's side with a clock above it which reads 10.36 and a Thermotank air conditioning unit is in the aft corner.
