The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). In the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking forward and to port into the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck from 57½ station just outside the hangar door showing the F.D.O's [flight direction officer's?] position next to the roller shutter door. A small sloping top desk has ledgers on it and the bulkheads are covered in communications equipment. The hangar door control lever unit is behind the desk and above and to the right of it is a large tin of Fox's Glacier Mints. A square window is in the bulkhead of the hangar giving the F.D.O. a view of the flight deck from inside the hangar. A vertical format negative.
