On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the hangar between 49 and 57 stations on 1 deck looking to port and slightly aft from 56 station showing the F.D.O's [flight direction officer's?] position just inside the hangar next to the roller shutter door. A small sloping top desk has ledgers on it and the bulkheads are covered in communications equipment. A square window is in the aft bulkhead giving the F.D.O. a view of the flight deck from inside the hangar. The ship's quarterdeck bell is on the deck in the corner. A vertical format negative.
