On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the wheelhouse between 27½ and 29 stations on 1 deck looking to starboard showing the wheel, the starboard engine order transmitter and the revolution transmitter in the foreground. Two navigation light panels, two dimmer boxes, a stern and overtaking light dimmer box, a fuse panel, a revolution order reply gong, two intercom speakers and a steering motor alarm bell are against the starboard bulkhead.
