On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' dining hall between 49 and 52 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port showing two tables and tubular chairs set athwartships. A steel sideboard unit, a wooden sliding door cupboard and two four-slice toasters are against the servery bulkhead. The roller shutter to the servery is closed. An automatic emergency lantern is next to the open door into the hall. An electric fire and a notice board are against the port bulkhead on the right.
