The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). The starboard side of the quarterdeck between 71 and 80 stations on 2 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the starboard side of the quarterdeck at 73 station looking aft on 2 deck showing canvas covered liferafts on the right with a cable reel aft of them. The deck edge bollards are covered with a perforated wooden box. Aft of the awning stanchion is the storage racks for petrol cans and an awning has been rigged over the quarterdeck. The bow of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962) and the stores lighter PAS 1001 are alongside the eastern quay.
