The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). On the quarterdeck between 71 and 80 stations on 2 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the starboard side of the quarterdeck at 78 station looking forward and to port on 2 deck showing two sets of bollards covered with perforated wooden boxes. A cable reel just to starboard of the centre line has a much larger, canvas covered, hawser reel, ahead of it. The watertight hatch leading down to the steering gear compartment on 3 deck is open and an hydraulic powered cable reel is to port and ahead of it. An awning has been rigged over the quarterdeck.
