On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the air electrical maintenance room between 50 and 54 stations on the starboard side of 01 deck looking forward and to port from 53 station. A work bench with cupboards and drawers under and shelves above is against the forward bulkhead and a rack of shelves is in the port forward corner. Two fire extinguishers and an automatic emergency lantern are next to the door on the left.
