On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the electrical maintenance room between 39 and 42 stations on 1 deck looking to starboard from 41 station showing the workbench against the aft bulkhead. A telephone and a composite communications unit case are at the back of the bench and a shelf is above it. A rack of drawers is against the starboard bulkhead with a Thermotank air conditioning unit above it.
