On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the main communications office between 32¼ and 35 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port from 34 station showing Bay 8 with a Fordigraph Consul machine and a telephone on it and an outfit KMP control unit under it. A label at the back of the work station reads 'Bay 8 Callsign typist'. Bay 7 on the left is equipped with a typewriter. A nest of pigeon holes is against the aft bulkhead and a large telephone and radio exchange board is on the port fly bulkhead.
