A detail view of the Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin, Chatham Dockyard.

The Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the south quay abreast the ship's port bow looking aft and to starboard showing her topsides from the gun turret to the funnel. An awning is rigged to starboard of her enclosed bridge and she has been refitted with a MRS 3 director ahead of the foremast. Her pendant number is F103 and the number on her funnel indicates that she is a member of the 4th Frigate Squadron.
