The Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the sonar instrument compartment between 12½ and 16 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 14 station showing the sonar type 182 cabinets against the forward bulkhead on the left. Against the starboard bulkhead in the corner is a wooden cupboard and drawer unit with a sonar type 170 connection box above it. Cabinet No. 5 is on the right. A vertical format negative.
