Eyepiece micrometer
This is a parallel wire distance eyepiece micrometer which is a type of filar micrometer. It would probably have been used to measure the distance between stars or between nebulae, star clusters and stars by the maker's older brother, William Herschel.
The eyepiece micrometer has a focal length of 27.94mm. It has a large thread and is made up of a large wooden mount with large brass circle. It has one broken wire, apparently of hair.
