On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the main communications office between 32¼ and 35 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and slightly to port from 34 station showing the position of the rating in charge. His desk has an Imperial 66 typewriter on it and intercom panels, a telephone and a microphone are at the back of it. An outfit KMP parallel control unit, an exchange board, a temperature indicating panel, two voice pipes, six type RWA radio switch units and a nest of pigeon holes are against the aft bulkhead. A Fordigraph Consul unit is on Bay 8 in the left foreground.
