On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the main communications office between 32¼ and 35 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port from 34 station showing the position of the rating in charge. His desk has an Imperial 66 typewriter on it. An outfit KMP parallel control unit, a telephone and radio exchange board, a temperature indicating panel and two voice pipes are against the aft bulkhead. A large telephone and radio exchange board is above ten circuit units against the port fly bulkhead.
