On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the sonar control room between 35¼ and 39 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft and to port showing the sliding door to the room on the right with a fire extinguisher bracket next to it. Terminal boxes and an operator's position are against the port bulkhead. On the aft bulkhead are sonar dome controls and indicator panels and a 10-way basic intercom control box. The rotating chair of the officer-in-charge is on a raised platform in the centre.
